Dougie’s Mum is a Cavapoo (a cavalier King Charles spaniel crossed with a poodle) who takes Dougie on regular trips to the playground — the same one the Heeler family frequents. Dougie is deaf, so Mum communicates with him using sign language. She loves him dearly and keeps a close eye while he plays, pushing him on the swing and rescuing him from the out-of-control Spinner Bowl when necessary. 

She’s considerate of other kids, and when Dougie is tempted to adopt a stray turtle toy from the playground, she gently puts her foot down — just in case Turtle boy’s owner comes back…
