Creating Bluey in stitch and puffies: Q&A with Lykke Studios

Bluey fans can now spend time with Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and friends in both stitch. and puffies. To celebrate the collaboration, we spoke with the team at Lykke Studios about their favourite characters, the inspiration behind the puzzles, and how they brought the warmth, imagination and fun of Bluey into two relaxing gaming experiences.

First of all, are there many fans of Bluey in the studio?

We are a team of 8 at Lykke Studios, and most of us were fans long before the integration even came up, especially the parents in the team and their kids. When the collaboration was announced internally, there was immediate excitement! Beyond being a genuinely clever and funny show, Bluey felt like a perfect fit for our players: thoughtful, fun, and made with real care for everyone in the room.

Which moments or episodes of Bluey inspired the hoops and sticker puzzles in the Game?

We focused on the team’s favourite episodes, the ones about imaginative play, family time and making day-to-day moments feel magical, bringing joy and coziness in the process. We wanted players to feel the same sense of “let’s play!” that the show captures so well.

Who’s your favourite character from the show?

The team is pretty divided on this one, but if we had to pick, Bandit wins. His humour and endless supply of play ideas are something we truly admire and relate to a little too much.

Was there anything that didn’t make it into the game?

There’s always something that doesn’t make it, that’s just the nature of the process. What we made sure of is that everything that did make it in is the best it could be, given the timeframes and technical realities of a global, limited-time event.

What’s in this game for the grown-ups?

We design for adults as much as for kids! We know a lot of our players are playing our games together with their children, which makes Bluey’s appearance feel especially right.

Can you tell us a little about what inspired you to develop puffies and stitch?

We’ve been designing relaxing, premium experiences since 2019. Our games are rooted in crafting, coziness, and materials like watercolour in tint., or playing with light in lumen.. Both stitch. and puffies. came from the same idea to create meditative, calm experiences. To put it simply, we create games that feel good to exist in for everyone.

How did you decide on the poses for Bluey and the gang? Were there particular themes or moments from the show you wanted to stay close to?

In stitch. we wanted to let players spend time with as many of their beloved characters as possible. With that in mind, we created a collection of 8 Hoops, each one a chance to play with Bluey, her family, and friends. A special achievement is also awarded to players once they solve and collect them all.

Stitch is a relaxing game but can be tricky to master – what tips would you give Bluey fans to help them create their best designs?

Generally, the game offers unlimited hints, so players can use them or disable them depending on their desired level of challenge. Bluey Hoops were specifically designed to be relatively easy to complete to make the whole experience as enjoyable as possible for a good family time.

Stitch is known for its calm, puzzle-first gameplay – how did you integrate Bluey while maintaining the authenticity of both brands?

Both brands felt aligned. They’re about warmth, care, family, and play. Because of that, the integration didn’t feel engineered at all. The Hoops are still stitch. at their core, they just carry characters and moments from the show everyone loves. We didn’t reshape the gameplay for Bluey, it honestly felt like it was already meant to be there.

How does the Bluey integration compare with the wider stitch experience? If players enjoy the integration, what hoops should they start with next?

Bluey Hoops are a natural addition to the wider stitch. experience. They simply add more value by giving players the opportunity to stitch their beloved characters. Beyond Bluey, stitch. offers more than 800 Hoops across a wide range of categories. We’re very proud of this collection, where everyone can find something they’ll enjoy.

How do you determine the number of squares and colours in each design? Is it driven more by gameplay or by the artwork?

Each Hoop is designed by hand in-house by our artists, and it’s quite a process from start to finish. For the Bluey Hoops, we started with character sketches provided by the BBC team. Normally, our artists create the artwork themselves, but in this case we worked from the official designs to make sure the characters are authentic.

From there, we turned the artwork into a pixel design and refined it to make sure it looks right and works well as a puzzle. Once the artwork is ready, we break it into puzzle sections, create the numbering and logic, and test everything in-game.

The number of squares and colours comes from balancing the original artwork with the needs of the puzzle system, as well as ensuring good variety across the full range of experiences—from XS to XXXL puzzles.

Were there any specific character moments or scenes you felt had to be included?

Our main goal in stitch. was to include as many Bluey characters as possible. We wanted players to feel like they were stepping into the full world of the show, not just getting a glimpse of it.

How do you jigsaw-ify Bluey? What’s the mechanics behind the build?

In puffies we worked with our favourite episodes. We picked 6 episodes and broke each one down into its key scenes. The artwork came directly from BBC and Ludo Studio, and we turned each scene into a puzzle piece. What’s nice is how it all comes together: as players solve it, the full sticker sheet slowly reveals the story of the episode, like you’re rewatching it piece by piece.

Were there any designs that didn’t make it into the game or just didn’t work out?

There were quite a few iterations along the way. Finding the right balance between highlighting the storyline and keeping the puzzle playable takes real care. We worked closely with BBC and Ludo Studio to make this happen.

How did you decide which stickers were going to be available? Were there any
personal favourites you championed along the way?

The selection was driven by the episodes themselves. Each sticker needed to feel like a meaningful piece of the story. But there was definitely plenty of internal debate about which characters and moments should make it in. We wanted every sticker to feel worth collecting!

How did you approach balancing the difficulty of the Bluey puzzles for different players?

Puffies already has a tiered difficulty system, and the Bluey puzzles follow the same logic. We wanted a five-year-old and their parents playing together to both find something that felt just right.

How does Bluey fit within the broader Puffies sticker collections?

Bluey Packs fit into puffies. like it was always meant to be there. The show’s warm colours, characters, and strong visual identity incorporates beautifully in what puffies. does as a game.

What was your favourite sticker to work on?

That’s a closely guarded Lykke’s secret, and there may have been some very passionate debates about it.
